The measurement of the distribution of a product by laser particle size cannot always explain the differences in behavior of the final product.

To complement our installed base of equipment in terms of morphological characterizations, the laboratory is equipped with a Morphologi G3 (Malvern).

This equipment is an advanced particle characterization tool for measuring the size and shape of particles from 500 nanometers to several millimeters. A single instrument provides the flexibility needed for R&D and troubleshooting as well as the confirmation required for QC (quality control) analysis. This technique is often used in conjunction with laser particle size analysis, to further our knowledge of the product or its behavior in use.

The Morphologi G3 measures the size and shape of particles based on the analysis of static images. There are three essential steps in the measurement process :
• Sample preparation and dispersion
• Image capture
• Semi-automatic analysis of data

Measurements are possible using the liquid process, dry process and on membranes.

Parameters :
Particle size :
0,5 µm – 3mm
Measurable parameters : Size, shape, number (up to several thousand).
Size settings : Circle Equivalent Diameter (CE), Length, Width, Perimeter, Area, Max. Distance, Equivalent Sphere (SE) Volume, Total Length of Fiber, Fiber Width.
Shape settings : Aspect ratio, circularity, convexity, elongation, elongation of the fiber, straightness of the fiber.
Specific parameters : Transparency.
